Fixing My TBR: Reading Challenge
Have you ever had a stack of books you’ve started, but for you can’t seem to finish? This has happened to me more times than I like to admit! I start a book - I like how it’s going, but then! The spark fizzles out. I pick up another book, and it happens again, and again, and again.
This tends to happen to me whenever I’m stressed out. It’s like calling water wet. There’s so many things happening right now in the world (and also my personal life) that’s incredibly stressful! It makes it hard to enjoy your hobbies in peace.
With this video, I try to solve my problem to finish my books by forcing myself to finish them all before I start anything new. And well, spoilers, it didn’t go well!
I was struggling with the idea of DNFing, or “did not finish” a book. It didn’t make sense to me to stop reading a book when I was enjoying it! At the end, it took some encouragement from others to consider “soft DNFing” my books. When you DNF a book, it typically means you try to read it again in the future. However with soft DNFing, you just take a break with it. For me, I realized that I needed to take a longer break from these books. I needed to remove my bookmarks and put the books back on the shelves. They’ll be waiting for me whenever I want to try them again.
